Suntec City (1995)
Commissioned by Suntec City in Singapore
The ‘Citylife’ series is a commissioned work by Suntec City Development P L, Singapore. The main diptych is a synthesis of elements that are both historic or cultural, like fans, banners and textiles, and modern, as in electronics and shopping. Underlying the sensitive, tactile surfaces, there is an intelligence that probes the structures created, so that to the artist, each piece poses questions about the problems of constructing anew.
The finished composition comprises four pieces on three related themes, measuring a total of 1.95 metres by 12.32 metres, or just over 24 square metres of hand-built clay. The architectonic element that has emerged in the ‘Citylife’ series diptyque is not entirely new in Delia’s work. It is part of a development of her ‘Windows’ series that began in former Yugoslavia.
